WHAT WE DO
At Pathways, we come alongside young adults transitioning out of orphanages and guide them toward bright futures. Our team of trained social workers and peer supporters travels to orphanages, teaching skills of independence and providing career guidance sessions. Pathways case managers also meet with individuals to assess their needs and help them map out a plan for their future. Through both group and individual sessions, our team takes the time to build trusting and warm relationships with these young people. Then, as each one prepares to leave the orphanage, we provide a comprehensive, individualized package of leaving care support. It is our goal to:
- Promote each individual’s strengths.
- Address each one’s spiritual, social, emotional, physical, educational, vocational, and legal needs.
- Walk alongside these young adults as partners in building their bright futures.
WHAT THE RESEARCH SAYS
Young adults who grow up in orphanages face a path to adulthood that can be described as shorter, steeper, and more hazardous compared with the extended transitions that most young people experience as they become independent.
Research has shown that these young people are at risk for:
- Homelessness
- Crime
- Physical Illness
- Mental Illness
- Early mortality
- Suicide
- Low Educational Attainment
- Teenage pregnancy
- Physical and sexual abuse
- And so much more
